SCHOOL REMEMBERS 90TH ANNIVERSARY OF ARMISTICE DAY WITH SPECIAL TRIBUTE4.17.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 14th Oct 2008 Pershore High School will take part in a special Royal British Legion tribute to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the end of the Great War on 11th November 1918. Local Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate, Richard Burt came up with the idea for the school to take part in Royal British Legion plans to honour the war dead by planting a 'Flanders Field' of Poppies beside the Menin Gate in Ypres after he received details in the post. "Having attended the school's Armistice service last year, I thought it would be an ideal opportunity to involve pupils in commemorating the school's fallen heroes by dedicating a special poppy to each of the 22 from the school Roll who have died in all wars," said Richard. "I spoke to the Head and he immediately warmed to the idea." Head Teacher, Clive Corbett said: "I was delighted with the suggestion because it provides an extra opportunity for our younger pupils to understand the sacrifice of those who fought for their country during the Great War. We will also make a collection to send with the Poppies to help the work of the Royal British Legion for Service men and women and their dependants that still goes on today. "Poppies will also be dedicated by a school History group who will be visiting the battlefields in Belgium later this month." ENDS
